Baner Hill in Pune, Maharashtra sits near the southern end of the Central Asian Flyway — one of the world's major bird migration corridors connecting Arctic Siberia to peninsular India. The hill is a designated urban forest and sits at the ecotone between the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot and the Deccan plateau, making it an ecologically significant stopover for winter migrants travelling south from Central Asia, Russia, and the Himalayas.
