As the monsoon's subtle whispers began, we observed a notable improvement in air quality compared to recent years, coupled with a welcome return of avian activity after a prolonged period of silence. This blend of cleaner skies and vibrant birdlife painted a unique picture for our Western Ghats edge.

Throughout June 2026, Earth Pulse recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 29.1, a significant improvement from the 35.8 of June 2025 and comparable to the cleaner readings of June 2024 (26.8). While the average temperature hovered around a comfortable 28.8°C, the thermometer saw fluctuations from a mild 22.23°C to a warmer 37.27°C. Rainfall this month was notably sparse, with just 14.2mm recorded across 4 days, a stark contrast to the heavy monsoon showers of 2025 (263.3mm) and 2024 (236.8mm). Most strikingly, our bird monitoring systems registered an impressive 107 species with 20,600 detections, a phenomenal return after zero species were recorded in Junes of 2025, 2024, and 2023. The Asian Koel emerged as the most vocal and active species, its distinctive calls echoing through our data.
